I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Pain and Sedation Management 4/12/2013

Being in the hospital for long periods of time gives you a new perspective on things. It makes you eager to find the silver lining in every dark cloud. Today has been one of those days that you can't call a bad day or a good day. It was just a day. Carter had periods of time that he rested really well and seemed to be comfortable, but he also had times that he seemed absolutely miserable and restless.

When he is awake, he doesn't understand that he is supposed to be still. Having a baby that had the possibility of not walking has made us the type of parents to never hold him back. This last few days have tested us on keeping our miracle baby still. We don't want him to move and ruin the work that was done in surgery. This can cause failure and more surgery.

The doctors and nurses are trying to find that magic concoction that keeps Carter comfortable, yet does not affect him adversely. A lot of pain medications and sedatives can cause respiratory failure. With Carter's recent case of pneumonia, this is a huge issue. While the doctors and nurses lean on their knowledge of chemistry and biology, we will lean on faith the keep our little boy pain free. We know who the Master Physician is and how awesome He is! We hope that you will continue to pray with us for the healing of our sweet boy. Even on a day that we don't see much change we say "TO GOD BE THE GLORY!"

While walking around Johns Hopkins on a mind clearing mission, I found this statue titled "The Divine Healer" I stood at the feet of Jesus and said a prayer for the many children that are battling their own sicknesses and problems here. What a beautiful sight it was and even more so knowing that he hears and answers our prayers.

  2. Praise God for even the slightest rest and relief of pain He has given Carter. Pray His will is to provide healing soon to Carter so you can hold and hug him and all of you can return to the loving arms of your family and friends.

I am glad that both of you are there with your son, because even as hard as it has been for you, it would be so much harder if you didn't have each other to lean on.

Thank you for taking the time to send the updates and pictures of Carter.
