verse

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. Psalm 139:14

Update 4/6/2013

As students are writing IPFC (I Pray for Carter) on their arms and on signs, we find our family needing these prayers. Today has not given us much change from the last few, but Carter has began to vomit an excessive amount. This all started last night right before bed. We made it through the night without anymore episodes, but again early this morning. Several hours rocked on before he vomited again, but then it was like opening the flood gates. It just kept happening and happening. X-rays and labs are being performed to see if they can pinpoint the cause. We are worried because last year's long hospital stay in Cincinnati was due to intestinal failure. Carter did this multiple times a day with no real purpose other than his intestines were not functioning and moving things along. Through surgery and some daily procedures we were able to get them slowly moving again. They had been working just fine, but we had to shut off his feeds this week due to the aspiration. Anytime that the bowels do not have something in them they have a tendency to slow down. In a child like Carter, that means to quit. We pray that this is only a fluke or very short virus and not anything more serious. We ask that you pray for this also.

Carter was able to get his oxygen cut down again today. If that trend continues, he should be able to be off completely early next week.

We will know more about Carter's condition as the labs and x-rays come back. We will also wait to talk to our doctors in the morning before any snap judgments are made. Another ultrasound will be performed on Monday to reevaluate the blood clot and to determine what our week will look like. Pray the wisdom and knowledge of all the doctors involved.

This has been one of the most trying weeks we have had as Carter's parents. It has been one hurdle after another. One complication compounding another. Although these things are weighing on us, we will continue to always praise God! We thank him for these experiences that build us up to be better servants in His name. He has defeated sin and a grave. These complications of Carter's will be no problem with your continued prayers. As always... TO HIM BE THE GLORY!!!

James 1:2-3 "Consider it pure joy my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance."

  1. My heart is breaking for poor little Carter. We're continually praying for him and for you and Brandon. God's strength is what will get you through this valley that you're passing through. Praying for wisdom for the doctors as they decide the next step in Carter's journey. He's such a brave little trooper and such a fighter. May God give you peace as you await test results.

  2. From Tyler (9 years old): I'm praying for Carter to get well soon.
Tyler has an awesome God loving teacher at school who has her whole class praying for Carter. I have followed Carter's Journey on Facebook for a while and never dreamed that my 9 year old would come home praying for the same little boy. Just want you to know that Carter's story is spreading and there are a lot of people praying for him.

  4. Blessed is the man who endures trials, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love him. James 1:12. God knows how much we can handle to prove our faith. I believe God is with you and sees how you are glorifying Him thru your trials. God bless you.
